It's interesting how the memories sort of sift together--connected but each one is discrete. Like the title, I guess--they layer. I'd be curious to read more memoir pieces like this about this time period. Some of the details seem vague to me. I found myself wonder "why?" often. Why does she need to get away from her cronies? Why does it matter so much what people think of her in her flip flops? Not that it's bad to wonder why. It made the piece feel like it was a small snapshot of something larger. I kind of like that feeling, but I'd also like to see the big picture. If that makes any sense. I like this piece.
